Haddock&Chips. Gosforth Exchange. 21.10.21

Setting the perfect tone between comedy and tragedy, the new play by Janet Plater does an excellent job of getting to the centre of core North-easternvalues in this superb two-person show.  Set inside of a Whitley Bay chippie, the beauty of Haddock is its ability to maintain a core narrative whilst using secondary characters to drop us in and out of local, personal, stories – some humorous, some melancholic, yet all common stories from Tyneside folk.  Well written, with plenty of nods to past and present North-eastern landmarks and events, Haddock showcases us Northerner’s for our best traits; people who care, sometimes too much, but people who do our best to always find the humour within the sadness.  Excellent.
