Trunk. 18.5.24

Local outfit Trunk have made considerable noise on the live scene.  Pushing the live sound into a substantial recording, new single ‘Save’ blasts its way into the collective conscience. Damian Robinson caught up with Trunk to find out more.

Before we get onto the new single, we’re excited to see you at A Stones Throw festival – what can we expect from the set, and will we be hearing any new music?

Thanks! Yeah, we’re all really looking forward to playing at Three Tanners Bank too, it’s been a long time. We’re planning on crunching all the tracks from our upcoming body of work into our time on stage, along with some spurts of ambient improv and unreleased tracks – both old and potentially new. We’ve been sat on a handful of tracks for some time but are eager for you all to hear our debut.

Any other bands that you’re excited to see on the bill?

For sure! There are some dear friends of ours on the roster this year. Dan Ward and his band are one to catch, as well as Pip Blom and Peevie wonders.

One of the last times we saw you was at the sold-out Star and Shadow show; how was that for you and any plans for new live shows after A Stones Throw?

That show was a sweaty one for sure, we all had a great night.

In terms of future shows, all I’ll say is expect a bunch of shows to be dotted throughout the remainder of 2024, I can see so much more blossoming from this project in the future and cannot wait to see the progression.

Your new song is great; it’s layered with your traditional energy and intensity. Could you tell us a little about when it was written and what it’s about.

Thank you! Yeah, ‘Save’ has always screamed, “first single” to us. That track’s about coming to terms with the fact that you can’t always help someone out of a hole if you’re in one yourself. It’s very easy to ignore your own problems by focusing on someone else’s, but if you spread yourself too thin then everyone suffers.

There’s a really interesting sound to the song, how did you build out the sound?

I think the vast range of influences is what really makes this one for us, the sound of the nineties is very much prominent and at the forefront of ‘Save.’ It’s a super angular track and unapologetically abrasive, I think.

In terms of the remainder of 2024, are you able to tell us what’s coming and what we should be excited about?

We have a handful of plans in the pipeline to take us through to 2025, all of which you’ll have to wait for, I’m afraid. Until then, you can keep your eyes peeled. With ‘Save’ coming out on May 31st, a second single soon enough and our debut EP ‘Tembo’ coming soon.

 Save is released May 31st.
