Lauren Amour // Broken Hearted Girls Club // Music Video Premiere

Local pop act Lauren Amour not only released a new single, ‘Broken Hearted Girls club’ recently – but also managed to loop in some visual expertise and some live exclusive showings in Boldon.  Damian Robinson caught up with Lauren to find out more about the single and the video.

Congrats on the recent single ‘Broken Hearted Girls club’ – it’s great and has a very unique sound.  Could you tell us a little about the single, how long it’s been in the creation process, and where it’s origins came from?

I wrote Broken Hearted Girls Club in 2022, whilst going through the worst break of my life so far. I was in Indiana, USA where I was staying for three months, by myself in a small town. I was in America to find new songwriting inspiration, to attend writing sessions, and to get the chance to network with other artists. Although it was my first time outside of the UK on my own, it was supposed to be an extremely exciting and rewarding time for my career. Whilst over there, I was broken up with. I felt like my world was crumbling and the only thing I could do was to put all of my feelings into song and so I created Broken Hearted Girls Club. Originally an acoustic ballad, it has since been transformed into an upbeat pop song, that I hope people of all ages can relate to.

It’s been out for a couple of weeks so far, how are you finding the reaction?

I always get a little nervous to see how my listeners will react to my songs but it’s been great so far. I am absolutely loving performing it live now that it’s out, as its always been a favourite to perform.

It was amazing to see it advertised on a billboard as well, and i got lots of messages from people who had seen it up there.

How are you as a creative person? Do you find it easy to release something and let it go off and be it’s own thing – or do you find yourself listening back to a release and being self-critical and constantly reviewing it?

I am the most self-critical person ever but after a while I do try to take a step back from the art and not get so inside of my own head, as that can often be quite unhealthy. I also get what’s called ‘demoitis’ and if the song changes too much from how its originally written, I often struggle to let it go even though i know in the end I am going to prefer the changes.

Broken Hearted Girls Club had a music video release at Boldon Cineworld.  Where did that idea come from and how was the experience?

Honestly, it was one of my most favourite moments in my career to date. “Broken Hearted Girls Club’ is such a special song to me, so I wanted to do something big for the release, and the music video premiere idea just came to me as I was thinking of some options. I was so overwhelmed by the support and love that everybody showed me. I had never done anything like that before, and Cineworld were absolutely amazing and gave me an experience that not every artist gets to have and I feel so fortunate. Seeing myself on the big screen is not something that I will forget anytime soon. When I think back to the premiere, it  makes me so emotional, I’m just so grateful.

In terms of the rest of the 2024, what’s next, and where can we catch you?

Definitely expect more new music and my second ever headline show which is on Friday 8th November at Newgate Social. Its going to be an amazing night, and I have incredible support artists too.
