Soul Asylum. Hurry up and wait.

Lazily collected into, various ‘scenes’ in the 90’s Soul Asylum really stood outside of music trends; if anything their dress sense, ideas, and manifesto held them to a geographical (Minnesota), rather than a musical, scene.

Luckily for us, if not the band, the further time passes from their commercial peak the easier it is to get a sense of their true form and who they would invite into their scene, which as ‘Hurry’ suggests, would be filled with ideas about class and status.  Part cleverly written hook driven rock (‘The Beginning’, ‘If I told you’) and part stripped back, vulnerable, acoustic/Americana (‘Make it laugh’, ‘Social butterfly’) ‘Hurry’ takes all of the rebelliousness and vulnerability of the Minnesota greats and mixes them into something equally as interesting.
