Slipping somewhere between Best Coast (lo-fi, pronounced base sounds, authentic-beyond-comprehension-lyrics) and some of the light elements of Stoner-Rock (psychedelic guitar lines, pitter-patter drum patterns) the new one from Chastity Belt is an enjoyable ride. Standing out on the more down-tempo, almost trip-hop, tracks (Hollow, Funny) the joy of Live Laugh Love is it’s ability to combine cynical-yet-honest lyrics (“The older I get the more I realize that I might just always feel this way) with DIIV like hypnotic guitar swirls and effects. A couple of misses (Blue elongates itself a little too much) balance out a few extraordinary highs (Laugh is a joy from start to finish) to produce an album that sparkles with ideas and pop hooks.
