An advocate for punk’s values, ‘End of Suffering’ may be Carter’s most ‘punk’ record to date as he throws out the rule book, and his traditional sound, in search of new sonic territories.  Spending most of his time in heavy/dirty rock spaces (‘Why a butterfly can’t love a spider’, ‘Supervillian’) Carter, and his mighty Rattlesnakes, transfer his core punk beliefs into new sounds which, although initially serving as a barrier to entry, allow Carter’s work to become more intense than usual.  As he sings on QOTSA sounding ‘Heartbreaker’, itself a nod to the New York punk greats, ‘I was going to be a Heartbreaker but then I fell in love’ Carter is aware that the greatest punks are those who put honesty, rather than uniformity, about everything else.
