Retuning for their seventh annual event, things, as with most cultural festivals in 2020, will look a little different at the Berwick Literary Festival when it gets going in mid-October.  Though the biggest cheer must be kept for the organisers, and their ability to keep the festival running in difficult occasions, you may also want to cheer when you see the line-up of speakers; this may well be the Festival’s strongest curation of performers to date. 

Opening up for registration on the 14^th September, this year’s festival see’s all talks/discussions move online for what is planned to be four days of interesting insight into the literary world; beginning on the 15^th October.

Festival chair, Michael Gallico, has so far announced several festivals performers; each of whom will bring words to life across topics as wide as poetry, history and current affairs.  Artists announced so far include slam poet Harry Baker, political columnist and broadcaster Steve Richards and Northumbria University’s Professor of American Studies Brian Ward, who will be curating an interesting piece based around Black Lives Matter and the life and times of Frederick Douglass, the black slave whose freedom was ought by two Quaker women in Newcastle.

As we continue to look towards interesting, educational, literature to keep us optimistic and enthused, the Berwick Literary Festival will continue to be an excellent place to visit.
