Starting off with an 80’s drum beat close to the Pet Shop Boys intro to ‘In the Night’, perhaps the most striking element of ‘Integration’ is its desire to root its musical texture in early/mid 80’s synth’s.  Part Pet Shop Boys and part Eurthymics, Integration works primarily because of its electronic texture and it’s quest to find an interesting blend between accessible pop and high energy club territories.  With sufficient rhythm changes to channel interesting build ups, and break downs, Integration builds a substantial foundation over which are placed melodic, robotic, vocals about alien visitations and computer uploads.  Whilst not matching the intellectual prowess of the PSB’s or Eurthymics, there’s enough here to suggest that AXLS fully understand the power of electronic pop music.  All they need now is a fashion tv show and songs about suburban life.
