Having a great year, Darlington-based indie/alt rockers ‘Blackout the Arcade’ look to finish off a productive twelve months with a celebratory show at Stockton KU. With the promise of a great show, and more coming in 2024, Damian Robinson caught up with Theo Colley to find out more.
Congratulations on a great year, this years singles ‘Overdrive’, ‘IITYO’ and newest release ‘Underrated’ have been great releases and well received. How’s 2024 been for you?
Thanks, that’s great to hear. We’ve had a really good year as a band, we’ve been writing pretty much constantly and have loads to look forward to both at the end of this year and into next year.
The show at Hardwick Live was pretty special too – it seemed like you were really enjoying it?
That was like a dream come true for us, Hardwick was the festival that we went to when we were young and we always dreamed that one day we would play it- so it was literally a dream come true in so many ways. To share the venue with so many great bands was something we won’t forget.
And there’s the show at KU to finish the year off with – will that be a similar sort of show to Hardwick?
A little bit, yeah, but whereas at Hardwick we got about 40 minutes, KU will be about an hour on stage. We probably enjoy the longer shows as it gives us a little more time to stretch out some of the songs, make the show a little more soul-y in places, and also it gives us a chance for a little more crowd interaction. So it’ll be a similar-ish setlist but with probably more of the newer songs and hopefully some of the newly written songs as well.
KU’s a great venue to play as well
Oh we love KU – it’s pretty much our second home – and we love Stockton as well, it’s got such a good collection of places to play and places to see good live music. Stockton has got such a good scene and is one of the best locations for live music in the North East for sure.
And into the end of the year, is there new music coming?
Yes – we’re hoping to put out another single this year, and then more into the year. We’re in a really good place as we have music recorded and ready to go, and we’re writing all of the time, so if anything the challenge is to keep up with ourselves. But we really want to make sure that each release is a progression from the next so we enjoy the challenge and we’re really excited not just about playing KU but also about the new music and new ideas.
Blackout the Arcade play Stockton KU on 30th November.
