Lauren Amour. 16.1.23

Local pop sensation, Lauren Amour, went viral in 2022 with a re-write of the Black Eyed Peas hit song ‘Where is the Love’ – a version she dedicated to Ukraine. Already showing a solid potential for pop compositions with releases ‘Reason To Stay’ and ‘Girlcode’, her pop future looks bright.  Damian Robinson caught up with Lauren to hear about her music and about her upcoming show at Bobiks.

2022 seemed a great year for you including the response to ‘Girlcode’ – how was the year for you?

2022 was a great year for me. I was fortunate enough to spend some time in the US recording and writing, and I released two singles. I found my true sound, and now I’m able to share my story so far through my songs. I went viral on TikTok a few times, and gained over 300k followers, it was amazing. I’ve learnt that perseverance is key, and you never know what is around the corner, so keep going.

And in terms of those lessons, what musical projects are you currently working on?

I am planning my Headline show which is at Bobiks on February 18th and I’m always writing, recording, and working on future releases which I am so excited about sharing.

Your Tik Tok live streams gain large numbers of views, how have you found them?

My TikTok lives are accessible from any part of the world, and it’s amazing to be able to meet people from around the world. I’ve also had a few successful musicians who have seen my videos reach out to me, including the Black-Eyed Peas and Cyndi Lauper.

In terms of your Bobiks show, what can we expect?

I’ll be performing with my band. They are great musicians and have really brought my records to life. I’ll be singing all of my current releases, and some sneaky unreleased tracks as well, including a newer one.

In terms of 2023, what other plans do you have and what are you hoping to achieve this year?

I am already so excited for 2023. I am a BBC Introducing tip for 2023 which is an absolute dream. I am hoping to play some big festivals and gigs, and keep my supporters growing throughout the year. One of my goals is to reach 500k on TikTok and triple my monthly listeners on Spotify. I plan on going back to the US for some more writing and recording. And I hope to network with more musicians and producers throughout the year… readers can hit me up if they want to collaborate.

Lauren Amour will play Bobiks, Jesmond, on 18th Feb with support from Lily Brooke.
