Opening up with a choral, harmonising, soundtrack (a la ‘Fleet Foxes’) – the debut single from local lass (and former “The Redroom” frontwoman) Roise Larada starts with the kind of majesty that local promoters have been promising. Morphing into a Prefab-Sprout/Style Council blend of interesting acoustic indie-pop, the focus of “Better off” shifts across the single onto Larada’s vocals and choice for interesting, ear-worm, melody hooks. Supported by Libertines drummer Gary Powell, Better Off is a formidable debut; a hard pop shell supporting a warm, intermate, narrative and vocal. One to watch for sure.
