Sojoetaylor – maybe I

Before Kylie became ‘Kylie’ she used to be ‘Charlene’, a fictional character in a tea-time soap opera.  And as much as we always loved Charlene, we loved her most when she married her onscreen boyfriend ‘Scott’.  We loved her so much in fact that the soundtrack to the wedding, ‘Suddenly’, got to number one in the UK singles chart.  I say this because ‘Maybe I’ may be the long-lost lovechild of ‘Suddenly’; a love song so perfectly designed for the pop charts that it deserves to soundtrack the next soap mega-wedding.  Starting of as an acoustic, building up through double tracked vocals and ending up in a pop stomp beat, Maybe I may be the most perfect upbeat love pop song of 2021.

The nonsense re-write…

They say that patience is a virtue but god knows what a decade of waiting around is? A miracle?  After a staggering ten years working as a live-only musician, during some of which he played guitar for ‘Prize’, it’s finally time for Joe Taylor (Sojoetaylor) to get around to recording and releasing his own work.  And it’s well worth the wait.  ‘Maybe I’,  a love song so perfectly designed for the pop charts, is almost flawless in its song writing and production.  Starting of as an acoustic ballad, building up through double tracked vocals and an increased temp, Maybe I ends up as one of the most upbeat, perfect, love pop songs you’re likely to hear this year.
