Presumably influenced by the hand-clapping, funk bass-heavy, pounding guitars of the 1975 the new one by St Buryan is nothing if not of the moment. Potentially lacking in terms of genuine originality, what Tell Me misses in terms of ‘newness’ it certainly makes up for in terms of drive, composition and poppyness. Sonically close to the ‘Girls’ era of the 75er’s, which itself is presumably based on most of the mid 80’s Duran Duran output, Tell Me uses a strong funky groove and choppy guitar riffs to create a very ‘up’, major key, accessible pop sound. Sprinkled on top with sugary multi-tracked pop vocals, and lyrics about being in love and atomic lovers that are about to blow, Tell Me is composed for the dance floor and singing along to. What a great little pop song.
