Welsh warm up Liss Jones is in fine voice with just her and a pianist before king crooner Ball steps onstage with 9 piece band. Moving from an opening half (ish) of songs taken from his recent album, Ball’s repetoire is upbeat, almost, rocky (“Some guys” standing out) before a second half switch to musical theatre seems him soar. “Where I want to be” (chess) and “Love changes everything” (Phantom) stand out in a set with very high highs, and a few stalling moments. It’s a 23 song set and throughout it all Ball is on fine voice. He’s 64 and, vocally at least, really is as good as you can get.
