Newcastle-based indie-punksters The Thieves kick off tonight’s show with the type of energy and vigour lacking from most people at this time on a Sunday evening. Hard-edged, spiky and full of confidence, the four-piece put on an impressive show, particularly with new single Why so Blue as well as the Ramones styled I wanna be your man. A quick turnaround maintains the evening’s momentum before Sullivan enters and plays like Weller circa 1978. Fierce, and weaving 2 Tone and Punk textures across the show, Sullivan (and his 3 personal band) blitz through content from Sullivan’s back catalogue including recent album Paper dreams. Standing out with Running out of time, Overcome and I can’t keep this up, Sullivan is on fine form tonight, playing like an artist intent on leaving everything on stage. Fantastic stuff.
