Saint Etienne. Glasshouse. 24.9.26

Finishing on a high, Saint Etienne’s 2025 album “International” proved to be twelve-and-out for the Croydon trio.  Gaining a reputation as a classy, high-art, poppy-dance, outfit, the Et’s were often placed alongside high-brow British Electro pioneers like Pet Shop Boys, Erasure and Soft Cell.

Arriving for their final tour, it’s heart-warming to see the Glass House sold out tonight and filled with dancing, logo-wearing, fans.  Perhaps these are the moments that really matter at the end of a career; bowing out in front of an audience who’ve been happy to be part of the journey – their lives soundtracked by the music that’s been made.

Decked out to visuals showcasing (now) old 90’s retrospectives of bars and clubs, the Saint’s position tonight’ show as a retrospective; themselves perhaps acknowledging where they shined the brightest and the type of staging where their music was played the loudest.  Flitting across their 35 year career, tonight’s show focuses on both the greatest, and the recent, hits.  Soundtracked to many tears by Mrs Cracknell, highlights include the sharp “Like a Motorway”, the classy “Spring” and the delightful “You’re in a bad way”.  Like losing an old friend there’s mixed emotions tonight, but ultimately this is all about having happiness for the past.  A classy band and a classy way to say goodbye.
