Little Commets. The Grove. 8.1.24

Known for the dedication they put in to their live sets, it tends to always be a strong set from local indie DIY stalwarts Little Commets.  With that in mind, and given that they played two sets tonight, the Little One’s do all that’s hoped of them at their Grove (sold-out) show.

Starting off with a gentler, more acoustic, first hour – before kicking off into a more electric second half of the show- the Commets are on top form tonight; mixing up their sound with a combination of acoustic and electric instruments, as well as a unique combination of one-two-and-three part vocal harmonies.

Opener ‘Jennifer’ sets up a glorious evening of songs, mostly sprinkled with catchy melodies, arpeggiated guitars, and Futurehead-style ‘oh oh oh’ backing vocals.  Taken in a wider context what the show demonstrates tonight (particularly on standouts ‘My Boy William’ and ‘Violence Out tonight’) is that not only have the Commets always been strong songwriters, but they’ve always done it on their terms.  With that in mind it’ll be interesting to see where they go next and how much more they push things.
