Maybe it’s just me, it probably is, but it’s almost impossible to believe that tonight’s show with Durham-originated ‘Martha’ signifies 10 years since their brilliant album “Blisters in the pit of my heart” was released. Something of a local classic, Blisters was an album well ahead of its time – a feat which tonight’s sold out show (the last night of a sold out tour) testifies. Played in full, tonight shows that ‘Blisters’ remains exactly in the state that a great album should do – hard to time stamp, hard to forget, and hard not to enjoy every time you hear it – with tonight also showing that personal recorded favourites (“Precarious”) can be superseded by personal live favourites (“St Pauls”). A recent B-side release shows that Martha are still an active recording band – on live form like this you just hope they’re back in the studio working on new material.
