I used to go to see every James gig in Newcastle with my mate who loved the band. I was always less keen – especially after the time I saw Mr love-and-peace Booth tell the stewards off at a gig for seemingly no reason. Sit Down and She’s a star are exceptional songs, and exceptionally well delivered tonight but the rest is a bit mhah. Booth still comes across as a huge contradiction; playing some version of a socialist-pop-star-who-makes-it-all-about-him as he distributes vocals all about peace-and-love whilst his preaching from the stage about how much of a disgrace certain people are.
I miss my mate – these shows always make me think of her – and she would have loved it. I’m still less keen.
