Crux. The engine room. 7.10.21

Starting off with some heavy delta-blues/rock stylings, tonight’s EP release by local outfit Crux, owes huge gratitude to psychedelic rockers Palma Locus for kicking us off in serious style and setting out the ‘rawk’ stall. Heavily influenced by Kings of Leon, the Locus’s kick tonight into an early overdraft before handing over to the Crux lads for tales of Newcastle and inspection of the local scene. Decked out in toon tops, and joining the stage to notes from Local Hero, the band are already in celebratory mode as they launch into cuts from their impressive EP standouts including Bigg Market, Living in Dystopia and the stoner-rock masterclass of Agent Orange. Loud, local and impressively up on regional politics, Crux make a stand at becoming town cries for the North; letting others know about regional issues and challenges. The EP is outstanding and the live show, with the odd tightening up here and there, has the potential to be the same.
