Patent Pending. Think Tank. 20.8.19

Some pop fads seem to stay only for a matter of moments so it’s heart-warming to see a sell-out crowd for the Patent boys on their first visit to Newcastle for three years.  Leading the young audience into moments of pop punk jubilee, the Pender’s break the fourth wall throughout their show; ensuring as little distance between themselves and their audience as possible.  A face-time sing along to one of the bands daughter, as well as humorous stories about law suits with Slick Rick, are nice touches from a band who appear genuinely appreciative for the turn-out and desperate to connect with their crowd. Energetic and jovial, Patent’s set aims for the feel-good and is driven by highlights, ‘Anti everything’ and a powerful ‘One less heart to break’.   A cover of ‘Mr Brightside’ completes a set which works thanks to both the appreciation of the crowd as well as the efforts and friendliness of the band.
